The SRT armor is designed to address threats not traditionally tested by the NIJ .06 standard. It is tailored to keep your loadout light while protecting against common rifle rounds, such as the 5.56 M193 (standard AR-15 round) and the 7.62x39 (AK-47 round). This armor has been tested to withstand six shots from either the M193 or 7.62x39, while maintaining trauma within a safe range. This plate functions as a standalone unit, meaning no additional components are needed for trauma mitigation. Why is it a SRT and not level III? The NIJ .06 definition for Level III plate testing parameters require six shots of 7.62x51 (M80) with less than 44mm of back face signature on the first two shots and zero penetrations on the last four. We designed the SRT to address the more common threats of 5.56 and 7.62x39. Typically, a Level III plate is thicker and heavier to stop the excessive trauma created by the 147-grain 7.62x51 round. By focusing on "special rifle threats" not tested by the NIJ (5.56/7.62x39), we can create a lighter and thinner plate. Will it stop a 7.62×51 (M80)? Yes, it will stop the round with zero penetration. However, since the trauma may exceed the safety limit of 44mm, we do not advertise it as such. Is it Multi-hit? Yes, it is designed to effectively withstand six shots of M193 and 7.62x39 MSC while maintaining trauma within the acceptable range of under 44mm.
